Banner
Traditionally, a banner is a square or rectangular advertisement. In the past, this format was very popular, however, over time people have increasingly begun to overlook banners or unconsciously ignore them (often referred to as banner blindness). In addition, sofware which blocks banner advertisement has become more popular. Banners today are not generally reaching their past successes and have a low click-rate, however, they are still widely used for "self-promotion"; they are placed in the online store, where they promote news, sales, events, etc. For more information about banner campaigns, see the article Building up your traffic.
Banner creation
The banners were previously created as static images (JPG) or animations (GIF format) but the development of Flash has meant the ability to display more information about the offered products or services. The disadvantage of graphically processed banners is their size, which is limited.
Banner size
Banners are generally created and implemented in several basic sizes. The most popular being 468x60 px, 125x125 px or the 88x31 px icon. Of course other sizes can be used for presentations.
