E-business
Electronic business (e-business) uses in particular web technologies and various automated information systems.
What is e-business?
E-business is an electronic business. It can be defined as the use of information and communication technologies to support all business activities. The recent E-business boom is mainly linked to the Internet development, development of software technologies and hardware and telecommunications development.
E-business versus e-commerce
The concept of e-business is somewhat broader in scope than e-commerce. While e-commerce primarily focuses on the buying and selling of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet, e-business refers to the field of electronic business as a whole.
E-business involves business processes, including the entire chain from electronic purchasing, supply management and processing orders via customer service, customer relationship management (CRM) and the use of ERP systems to electronic data interchange (EDI, EDIFACT), and cooperation among business partners.
The complex applications and principles of a company´s e-business are provided either through its own IT departments or by partial use of the service of system integrators. In practice, outsourcing IT solutions is often a more viable alternative.
